Reverend Kenneth R G Hunt
(1884 - 1948)
KRG Hunt was Head of School at the beginning of the 20th Century and by 1902, at the age of 18, he was captain of Trents football team. It was the beginning of what was to be a distinguished career.
Hunt was an Oxford Blue and Corinthian, who played as an amateur for the victorious Wolverhampton Wanderers side against Newcastle United in the 1908 Cup Final at Crystal Palace. At the time, Newcastle was the most successful side in England and Wolves appeared mid-table in Division Two. According to
contemporary reports, Hunt was the most outstanding player of the 1908 Final. He also gained the distinction of becoming the only amateur to score a goal in the FA Cup Final throughout the 20th Century.
Reverend Hunts ordained ministry took him to London, where, like Headmaster Geoffrey Bell later, he took up a position as School Chaplain at Highgate School in 1910.
He also played for Leyton, an amateur club playing in the southern league (not Leyton Orient), and went on to be capped for England. Thus, he also has the distinction of being the only cleric to do so, playing against Wales in February 1911, and Scotland in April 1911.
